When Sattler College welcomed our first class in 2018, we were excited to have one of the top classes across the country in terms of academic performance. That first year, we had an acceptance rate of just 50% due to the academic rigor and readiness for relational discipleship that we sought here at Sattler. All of our incoming students since then have likewise been carefully selected to ensure that they are excited to embody both of these values. However, over the years, we have given out several scholarships to distinguish exceptional students, both for their academic excellence as well as for their commitment to kingdom service. 

After launching Entrustment Tuition in 2024 (which fully covers the cost of tuition for every Sattler student!), we were concerned that we would still have a way to distinguish excellence among our incoming students. Our first response to this is that each of our accepted students is an “Entrusted Scholar,” meaning they have already demonstrated a high degree of competence and discipleship. However, some students go even further—demonstrating extraordinary leadership, academic excellence, and kingdom impact. This year, we’re excited to introduce three new merit-based awards as well as the Global Impact Grant to recognize entrusted students who exemplify the highest ideals of Sattler College.

Honoring Excellence

• The Sattler Scholar Award – Awarded to one incoming student who exemplifies outstanding academic achievement and curiosity. This prestigious one-time award provides a $5,000 college-approved Paid Research Trip aligned with the recipient’s field of study, covering travel, lodging, and research-related expenses.
• The Presidential Scholar Award – Given to students with exceptional academic performance. This award covers the cost of all required textbooks.
• The Servant Scholar Award – Given to students with a compelling life story of faith-driven service. This award covers the cost of all required textbooks.
• The Global Impact Grant – Awarded to one international student with financial need and exceptional promise in relational discipleship. This grant fully covers room and board for one academic year, allowing the recipient to immerse themselves in Sattler’s discipleship community.

Abbot’s Story

To understand the impact of these new funding opportunities, look no further than Abbot, a Sattler student from Kampala, Uganda. Abbot was a top performer on his national exam and was awarded a prestigious scholarship to study in Algeria. Since he longed for an education that integrated faith and learning, Abbot chose instead to study at Sattler College, where he was awarded Sattler’s William Carey International Scholarship, fully covering his tuition and room and board expenses.

Because of this opportunity, Abbot was able to fully dedicate himself to his studies in computer science, deepening his knowledge and skills. His dedication and excellence ultimately earned him a highly competitive, paid internship at Google—an achievement that will not only transform his future but also create opportunities for others in his community.

Abbot’s story is a testament to what happens when financial barriers are removed and students are empowered to pursue excellence. The new awards seek to do the same for more students—recognizing their achievements and providing them with additional resources to fulfill their calling. The Global Impact Grant, in particular, will be life-changing for international students who sometimes lack the financial means to cover room and board. By alleviating this burden, the grant enables entrusted students, like Abbot, to fully engage in Sattler’s rigorous academics and relational discipleship program without the constant stress of finances.
