Dearest Sattler Stakeholders,
I sent out weekly update #59 to our staff and faculty as we approach our fall break in Sattler’s 13th academic semester. I’m thrilled to share Presidential Newsletter #5. Onward to power, love, and sound minds (2 Tim 1:7).
Fall Foliage & Sattler Open House
- As New England’s vibrant foliage turns our region into a scenic masterpiece and attracts tourists from around the globe, why not take the opportunity to visit us? Join us for Sattler’s Fall Open House on October 18-19 and enjoy our travel incentives—$200 for starting an application and $300 for completing one. Register here.
- Additionally, if you come and reference this bullet point, I’ll buy you a beverage at The Well Coffee House down the street!
September Reflections
- It’s been a fantastic start to the semester, and as I walk the halls, I’ve been catching up with students, especially our new arrivals. They’ve been struck by the “lightning of new,” and it’s been wonderful to see their growth already. A first-semester freshman typically dives into these classes:
- BIO 101: Principles of Biology
- BRS 101: The Fundamental Texts of Christianity
- JGC 101: Discipleship Lab
- LNG 101: Expository Writing
- LNG 102: Elementary Greek I
- MAT 102: Statistics and Data Science
Q3 Board Meeting
- On September 21st, our board gathered to discuss strategic planning, admissions, transfer pathways, and distance education. Your prayers are greatly appreciated as we continue our mission to equip students for the future.
FaithTech Event in Boston on Sattler’s Campus
- We hosted the FaithTech Boston Fall Kick-off on September 25th, where MIT Professor Rosalind Picard delivered a powerful talk on technology and God’s purposes. Special thanks to Professor Derrick Tate for helping bring this event to life!
Podcast Episode
- I recently sat down with Timothy Miller (Sattler ‘22) to discuss Evangelism in Daily Life. It’s always inspiring to learn from our alumni. Keep an ear out for more episodes coming your way!
Morale Day – October 1st
- “Fall” into solitude and reflection on October 1st—our campus-wide Morale Day, where we take a break from academics to focus on solitude and rest.
Known Alumni Highlights
- Alex Burkholder (Sattler ‘23) is now at Lock Haven University and recently published a paper in Cell Reports Methods.
- Seth Pontbriand (Sattler ‘24) has started a Graduate Certificate program at Boston University.
- Stan Kornelsen (Sattler ‘24) has started a Graduate Certificate program at Fanshawe College.
Director of Donor Development Search
- We’re looking for a Director of Donor Development! If you know someone who could help grow our mission, please send them our way. Learn more here.
5-Pearl Friday – Back by Popular Demand
- It’s back! I have to give a shout-out to our amazing Marketing Associate for bringing this feature to life again (even if he didn’t choose my “things we can’t stop smiling about” idea until the third week.) In case you missed it, here’s the thing we couldn’t stop smiling about last week: A man sold his VHS player on eBay and received a touching letter in return.
Quote Bank Challenge
- Did you know one of our alumni created a Sattler Quote Bank, packed with memorable moments from our staff, faculty, and students? Each month, I’ll give away three pieces of mystery Sattler merch to the first, second, and third people who correctly attribute a quote!
- Who said it?
- Student A: “Where are you going for Morale Day?”
- Student B: “I think I might go to the graveyard.”
- Student A: “That’s not very life-giving!”
- Send an email with your answer to president@sattler.edu for your chance to win!
Feedback
- We’re always looking to improve these newsletters! If you have feedback on what to keep, stop, or start, I’d love to hear from you at president@sattler.edu.
Yours for Christ,
Zack Johnson
