Presidential Newsletter #2

Dearest Sattler Stakeholders,
This week we sent Weekly Update #50 to our faculty and staff as we approach midterms. Here is Presidential Newsletter #2. Onward to power, love, and sound minds (2 Tim 1:7).
- Alumni Highlight: This week, we received news that an alum from our inaugural class was accepted into an MD-PhD Combined Degree program at Johns Hopkins. From what I hear, this is arguably one of the top programs in the world in its category. Congratulations to all who were involved, and praise be to God!
- Student Highlight: One way Sattler equips students to address diverse challenges is through their Capstones. One student just had their capstone work, “Alone on the Frontline: The First Report of PTSD Prevalence and Risk in De-occupied Ukrainian Villages,” accepted for publication in the International Journal of Social Psychiatry.
- Referrals: We still have open spots for the entering class of fall 2024. If there is someone you know whom our team can invite to study with us in Boston, please send their contact information (with their permission) to me (president@sattler.edu) or our admissions team (admissions@sattler.edu).
- Podcast: I’ve had the chance to sit down with several of our faculty and staff to record podcast episodes. Here is an archive of our podcasts. Be sure to check out the latest episode with Dr. Beth Bennett titled “Mothers in Lab Coats.”
- Advancement: Sattler’s Giving button has been tucked away in a corner of our website for most of our existence. To my knowledge, we have never actively asked for contributions. After launching Entrustment Tuition, we are especially keen to increase the number of people who contribute to Sattler to invest in our students. I wanted to highlight three ways to partner with Sattler to help us keep advancing:
- Sattler College Fund: the financial lifeblood of our daily operations. They allow us to maintain the high quality of our academic programs, support faculty excellence, and enhance the overall student experience. Donations to the General Fund provide us with the flexibility to apply funds where they are needed most.
- Sattler Entrustment Endowment: a vision cast into action. It ensures the longevity of the Entrustment Tuition program and Sattler College, enabling future generations to receive an education free from the burden of debt. Your contribution is a long-term investment in equipping the next generation, who will carry forward the mission of Christ.
- International Living Grant: The International Living Grant is a beacon of hope for international students from low-income countries that desire to study at Sattler. By reducing housing costs, supporting travel, and helping with emergency expenses you help these students to join Sattler, enriching our campus and equipping them to light the world.
*We currently have students from 4/6 livable continents and would love to get to 6/6!
- Events: Come visit us in Boston! We have some great events coming up, including an evergreen Friday event::
- Sattler for a Day (Every Friday)
- Spring Open House (March 22-23, 2024): This event is aimed at students considering coming to Sattler. HOWEVER, if you are interested in Boston, Christianity, and History, the Christian history walking tour is worth a weekend visit in itself.
- Therefore Go: Cultivating Caring Communities (March 23): Many people have focused on the breadth of the Great Commission while inadvertently overlooking the need for depth in the Christian community for it to have its full effect. This conference intends to continue changing that narrative. We will discuss a variety of topics, including abuse, bridging the gap between married and unmarried Christians, and sexual addictions. The gravity of each of these topics varies, but the process of Christians growing in their understanding and care for each of them is, in one way or another, critical to the Great Commission.
- High School Week 2024 (June 3-8): Are you or someone you know struggling with deciding what to do after you graduate from high school? This is for you/them.
- Feedback: I will be learning about the right material to share in the monthly presidential newsletters. If you have any feedback regarding things to keep, stop, or start, I would love to hear from you at president@sattler.edu.
- Subscribe: Feel free to subscribe to this Newsletter for either monthly, quarterly, or annual at this link.
Yours for Christ,
Zack Johnson
