Edwin Imasuen, PhD

Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Imasuen is a passionate believer in education. He earned his doctorate (Ph.D.) from the
Moscow Institute of Architecture. He has over 25 years of senior-level leadership experience in
higher education and has served in various leadership roles. His past positions include serving as
Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Advancement; SACSCOC accreditation liaison
for Halifax Community College (HCC) (oversaw compliance with SACSCOC’s requirements,
state and federal policies, and implemented best practices to ensure institutional effectiveness);
Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, Assessment, Project Architect/Management;
nearly two decades as a faculty member; Dean of Assessment, Department Chair;
Institution/Community partnership liaison; Divisional Chair; Associate Dean of Academics;
Dean of Academics Affairs; Academic Dean member of the Consortium for Urban Education in
Indianapolis; a representative acting on behalf of a college president; accreditation evaluator
(peer reviewer) for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and SACSCOC; and federal
compliance analyst for HLC.

With a multifaceted career in higher education, he has dedicated himself to this field as a lifelong
ambition. His rich and diverse career reflects his passion for the promise that education brings to
all students and their communities. Firmly believing that education is a catalyst for change,
empowerment, and economic and social mobility, he is committed to supporting student success
and institutional viability. For over 18 years, he has taught courses at the associate, bachelor’s,
and master’s degree levels. Additionally, he has over 25 years of experience in leading
successful institutional accreditation efforts and engaging in the best practices. His
comprehensive experience with strategic planning showcases an excellent record of developing
and implementing strategic plans in collaboration with senior leadership, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Imasuen has been a Christian all of his life. He is a member of the Episcopal church. In
North Carolina, he served on the vestry, worship committee, Genesis II Team, and sang in the
choir. He has been on multiple mission trips to Brazil and Ecuador. Through his faith,
dedication, and expertise, he continues to make a lasting impact on the educational landscape.
