Scholarships

Scholarships are one of the most popular ways to pay for college. These are essentially free money that you don’t have to pay back. Scholarships are typically awarded based on merit, need, or a combination of both. They can come from Sattler College or various other sources, including private organizations, corporations, and government agencies.

William Carey International Student Scholarship (2023-24)

A full-ride scholarship for one international student enrolling in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The William Carey International Student Scholarship (WCISS) will bring joy to the nations by identifying international students who are eager to be trained for a lifetime of impact for Jesus and His church. This scholarship will be awarded to one, qualified international student enrolling in the 2023-2024 academic year as a full-time student in one of our five bachelor’s programs. The scholarship covers all tuition costs not covered by merit-based aid and up to $9,800 of room and board costs per year spanning four years of study.

The WCISS is applied after the admitted student has applied for and received a financial aid award. It will cover any remaining tuition costs not covered by merit-based aid. The ideal candidate will have test scores ranking in the 85th percentile or higher and will qualify to receive Sattler’s merit-based award of $5,000 per year (the recipient of the WCISS will not qualify for need-based aid). The WCISS will cover the remaining tuition costs not covered by merit-based awards. Additionally, it will cover the cost of room and board at the dorms up to $9,800 per academic year. This is equal to the current cost of room and board for one academic year. The maximum amount awarded annually will be $14,800 ($5,000 for tuition + $9,800 for room and board) for four years. Visit sattler.edu/tuition-and-aid for more information on the cost of attendance.

Under this arrangement, the recipient of this scholarship will receive a full-ride scholarship to Sattler College. “Full-ride” is restricted to tuition and room & board as laid out in the paragraph above. The WCISS may include an additional living stipend based on fund availability and the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. The scholarship funds may not be used to cover room and board when school is not in session (e.g. winter break and summer break). Additionally, funds will not cover the cost of textbooks, student life fees, and other miscellaneous costs associated with studying in Boston.

Who Was William Carey?

William Carey is known as the father of modern missions and for his preaching call to “expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.”   He did just that. Carey went from being a shoemaker in a rural village in England to teaching himself Greek, Hebrew, and Latin, and eventually serving as a missionary in India. While in India, he translated the Bible into 6 major Indian languages and is credited with bringing hundreds to Christ.

Sattler College is looking for students from the nations to serve the nations who, like Carey, are willing to “expect and attempt great things for God.”  We believe Sattler is the launching pad to “expect and attempt great things for God.” Here, students will have the opportunity to, like Carey, learn biblical Greek and Hebrew, obtain a firm rooting in the historic Christian faith, and be trained through Sattler’s discipleship program, all while obtaining a nationally accredited bachelor’s degree.

Why Adoniram Judson?

Adoniram Judson, a resident of Massachusetts, dedicated his life to Christ and His church. The following comes from a 2017 Sattler blog post: “Born in Malden,  Massachusetts in 1788, Judson was an extremely gifted child. He learned to read at the age of 3, did especially well in reading, mathematics, and even mastered Latin and Greek. At the age of 19, he graduated from Brown University as the valedictorian of his class.  With his strong academic training, great intelligence, and linguistic abilities, Judson could have very well become a famed scholar, politician or theologian in 19th-century America. However, through the convictions of his faith, he turned down the prestigious offer to be a minister at Boston’s Park Street Church, to the great dismay of his family. Instead, Judson embarked on a 37 years long service abroad as one of the first missionaries to Burma, during which time he endured numerous rejections, persecutions, tortures and even the death of his wife and children.

“For his hard work and sacrifice, Judson left Burma with the translated Bible as well as a half-completed Burmese-English dictionary, 100 churches, and over 8,000 believers at the time of his death. In large part due to his influence, Myanmar has the third largest number of Baptists worldwide, behind the United States and India. Even today, his name has continued to challenge and inspire countless people to wholly dedicate their life to God.”

We aspire to join the Lord in what He is doing by offering this opportunity to two residents of Massachusetts for the incoming class of 2027.
